Mediatheek International School of The Hague

Jaar: 2013

Cliënt: The International School of the Hague

Categorie: Architectuur, interieurontwerp

Briefing: Redesign the library to be in line with the renovation of the existing building. The existing elongated floor plan had to be transformed into a squarer space. An entirely revised layout and routes were required for the new Library Resource Centre (the media centre/library), with reuse of the existing library cabinets (Bomefa).

Concept: The lowest shelves were not used in the old set up. Covering these with panelling created a serene environment in the library. The resulting platform serves as seating and display space. The desk is situated around a wind brace in the building’s steel frame, resulting in optimal use of this space. The use of materials and colours is restrained, matching the rest of the building. Colour is added by students present in the space and by bright accents. The project was built by Jannink Interiors.

Result: A quiet uncluttered space with clear routes. The old bookcases have been rendered unrecognisable through their transformation into a contemporary concept that allows plenty of room for future adjustments.
